Easter Week: Day 5 - It's Fri and Sunday's Coming
For He taught His disciples and said to them, “The Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of men, and they will kill Him. And after He is killed, He will rise the third day.” But they did not understand this saying, and were afraid to ask Him. Mark 9:31-32
Good Friday? For Jesus' disciples, the day of His crucifixion was anything but good. Their beloved leader, their hope for the future of all Israel, the man they had spent the last three years doing life with, had been beaten, crucified and placed in a sealed tomb. Imagine the swirl of emotions in their hearts and minds: confusion, disappointment, disbelief, fear, anger, hopelessness.
Even though He had told them this would happen and that He would come back to life in three days, their grief-stricken hearts could only focus on the present moment. True to His word, Jesus would rise from the dead and they would see Him again. But today, His lifeless body lay in a stone-cold tomb, along with their dashed dreams. If only they had understood and believed what He had promised.
Who do you know that's stuck between Friday and Sunday right now? Someone who could use a huge dose of real hope, not a feel-good emotion, but a confident expectation and assurance. Maybe that someone is you. That's exactly what the message of our Easter service offers. Be sure to spread the word and bring everyone you can.
With great expectation,
