Dear Church Family,

What a wonderful Independence Day celebration we had together last Saturday! I enjoyed visiting with everyone at the picnic following the service. By God’s grace and favor, we have the “freedom to” do amazing things and be distinctive people. My hope for America remains undimmed; in fact, it burns brighter than ever.

As I reflect on this past season of ministry, I am convinced that we have been hitting the mark. We’ve focused much of the first half of 2010 on preparation: encouraging us all to begin dreaming God-sized dreams and awakening us to the vital importance of leveraging our time, talents and resources to impact our culture in life-changing ways. We saw hundreds of folks baptized in water the weekend after Easter, and 170+ youth and leaders recently returned from the Forward Conference fired up and ready to make a difference. Can you imagine what the rest of 2010 holds?

For the last couple of weeks, Jim Weathers has been teaching while I have attended to some administrative tasks, including preparations for opening Cathedral Preschool this fall. Beginning next week, I’ll be out of the office for a short study break. I began doing this several years ago, and the payoff has been phenomenal; Cathedral Academy came out of one study break. During this time away from the normal routine, Dean and I spend a lot of time seeking the Lord regarding His next directions for the church.

I ask that you agree with us in prayer over the next few weeks. Pray for wisdom and understanding and revelation. We want to keep Cathedral aligned with God’s heart, serving our generation well and preparing for those to come. We believe He has even greater things in store for our church in the days to come.

You’re in for a treat with our line-up of summer speakers. You don’t want to miss Bo and Alyce Reeves this weekend. I’m looking forward to their excellent teaching. We anticipate being back in the worship center on July 17/18. I’ll see you that weekend to celebrate together and enjoy our newly renovated space.

Over the summer, I encourage you to review your notes from the Dream and Leverage series. Listen to the messages again online if you wish. My prayer is that this summer will be just as refreshing and revitalizing for you as I anticipate it being for us. Let dreams be ignited in you, leverage yourself well, contemplate your role in this time of history, and expect God to speak to you!

I am excited about Cathedral fully engaging in our community and fulfilling the role God has for us during this pivotal time. We have the hope of the world and we will not keep it to ourselves. Be bold - be courageous - be all God created you to be. Blessings to you and yours!

Doing life together,

Mike Lewis
